Parent/Player Code of Conduct

The essential elements of character building and ethics are embodied in the six core principles of sportsmanship: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. My responsibilities are of great importance and my actions have the potential to influence the young athletes that observe my behavior. I want Nashua Cal Ripken to function with the highest possible standards for all of its participants. I therefore promise to conduct myself in accordance with the following code:

  1. I (and my guests) will treat all players, coaches, parents, officials, administrators, and opponents with respect and dignity.

  2. I will not encourage or take part in any behavior or practice that would endanger the physical health and wellbeing of others or myself.

  3. As a parent, I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or others.

  4. I will place the players first and the game second.

  5. As a parent, I will teach my child that doing one's best is more important than winning. I will praise my child for competing fairly, trying hard, and will reinforce that doing so makes him/her a winner every time. I will do this so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

  6. As a parent, I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition. All of my comments will be verbalized in a positive constructive manner, never emphasizing the negative.

  7. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.

  8. As a player I will play by the rules and resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.  As a parent I will adhere to the rules and thereby assist in teaching my child by example.

  9. I will never physically or verbally abuse a player, coach, parent, official or administrator regardless of the situation.

  10. I will not tolerate unsportsmanlike conduct.

  11. I understand that it is the responsibility of the coaches and/or officials to guide/teach the players while on the field, and will refrain from overriding their authority by attempting to do so myself.

  12. I understand that I am a member of a "Team", which requires me to be present at practices and games on time. I will contact the coach, in advance, if I am unable to attend.

  13. Most importantly, I will always ensure that I maintain my right to have fun.

Consequences for violating any item on the Code of Conduct Contract:

  • Physical abuse violations will result in an immediate and lifetime dismissal from the league.

  • A 1st violation, other than for physical abuse, may result in an immediate suspension subject to the discretion of the coach, President of the League, and/or Board of Directors. As the responsible party most likely to have immediate and first hand knowledge of the violation, the coach has the authority to dictate disciplinary action subject to review and approval/disapproval by the Board of Directors.

  • A 2nd violation may result in the immediate suspension from any and all league related activities for the length of the season in which the violation occurred. Having been the responsible party for disciplinary action in the first violation, the coach is required to bring a second offense violation to the attention of the Board of Directors for review and/or action. Infractions are cumulative and lifelong.

  • When the Board of Directors is required to review and/or take action on any given violation it will do so within a seven-day period. In the event that a quorum of the Board cannot convene within the seven-day period, it will convene at the first possible time following that period. Notice of review of violations by the Board will be provided to all involved parties in writing at least 24 hours prior to the review. The term “involved parties” is interpreted to mean any and all individuals that the Board has been made aware are the subject(s) of or direct witness to the violation.

Notice of the Board’s final decision with regard to violations will be provided to the affected parties in writing and within 24 hours of the Board’s decision. The Board reserves the right to deviate from the above-stated consequences, as it deems necessary.

All Parents, Legal Guardians and Players within my family acknowledge that we have read and fully understand the preceding Code of Conduct and its related consequences.  We (as parents and players) will adhere to the code, and agree that any violation may result in our suspension and/or dismissal from the league for up to a lifetime term as determined by the Board of Directors of Nashua Cal Ripken Baseball. We also promise to communicate the information contained within this code to the rest of our family and guests that they also will adhere to the rules within the code.  We understand that we am liable for the actions and conduct of all members of our family and our guests.
